Jax Wax is an Australian Company that manufactures the Jax Wax Australia wax range that is used in salons all over Australia and exported to a growing number of countries worldwide. Tina Copland, CEO, is joined by husband Geoff, to create superior wax formulas, while continually innovating to ensure the highest quality products are manufactured.

From the beginning, their focus has been on supporting salons by supplying exceptional Australian made products. They believe that they should be supporting the industries that support them by manufacturing quality products that are easy to use and offer superior results. All their products work first time, every time, have alluring scents, are attractively packaged and offer take-home products for salon operators to retail to their clients.

Your role/part:

Tina Copland, Director of Jax Wax is responsible for overseeing the growth and development of Jax Wax.  She has knowledge on all aspects of the business from administration to packaging to product development.

Tina regularly attends trade shows and conducts workshops overseas to promote the product to new markets and to maintain a strong relationship will all Jax Wax’s international distributors.  Currently Jax Wax export about around 50% of their total manufacturing and it is expected to increase within five years it to be about 70% to 90% of their total output.

How have your studies helped progress:

Even though Tina has been involved in the manufacturing industry since she left school (more than 40 years ago), she has no formal qualifications regarding formulating. The course provided by IPCS has greatly expanded her knowledge of all facets of formulating including regulatory requirements, natural versus synthetic, how to choose ingredients that work together – in fact a myriad of practical technical advice. There is nothing so true as the saying that “you don’t know what you don’t know” and this course certainly proved that – made us think about things that we never would have considered. Plenty of lightbulb moments! The handbooks that are part of the course get referred to often as a memory jog or just to check on the viability of the use of an ingredient. Jax Wax feels a lot more confident about formulating new products to enhance our existing range knowing that they will be compliant with legislation and will be effective. The next step will be to complete a course for organic formulating and to enrol additional staff members in other courses offered by IPCS.
