Personal care product development, manufacturing and sales role

Located in Revesby, NSW

We are a small to medium scale start-up cosmetic manufacturing business, recently partnered with an established manufacturer of organic cleaning products. We are looking for Expressions of Interest from Institute of Personal Care Science graduates (or soon to be graduates) for an opportunity to join our small team at grass-roots level. The role will be a dual position in:

  • Formulation development and small to medium batch size manufacture of hair care and skin care cosmetic products; and
  • Sales - this will mainly include visiting new and existing customers (retailers and clinics), and some participation in sales and marketing events may be required periodically

You will work closely with: 

  • the General Manager, a PhD scientist with qualifications and industry experience across microbiology, pharmaceutical compounding and research; 
  • Plant Manager, who oversees manufacturing activities, regulatory requirements and SOPs; and
  • marketing staff 

Tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Development of new formulations (hair care and skin care)
  • Perform stability and preservative challenge testing
  • Formula optimisation
  • Assisting with small to medium scale manufacture of cosmetic products
  • Responding to opportunities with new customers and nurturing existing client relationships
  • Using your understanding of cosmetic actives to guide marketing staff in the development of effective marketing campaigns

Duties and Responsibilities:

Personal Care Products Formulator 

Kansas City, KS (USA)

General Overview

The Personal Care Products Formulator provides critical technical, research, and development guidance for multiple new product and reformulation initiatives. The Personal Care Products Formulator will work directly with this company Product Marketing, Quality and Production departments as well as external development and formulation partners to identify and implement new consumer products in the Personal Care Industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop formulas for antiperspirants, deodorants and bar soap applications in support of increasing our personal care business. Prepare samples using lab and manufacturing equipment.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Sales & Marketing to develop testing criteria for evaluating competitive benchmarks and formula prototypes.
  • Identifies and qualifies new ingredients, raw materials, turnkey finished products and suppliers.
  • Reviews, analyzes and provides feedback on product development project timelines relative to all R&D action items and due dates.
  • Attends/participates in product development and launch team meetings.
  • Provide input for the production planning process as it relates to product formulation. Consults with production regarding on-line problem solving concerning product formulation.
  • Provides direction on product formulation specifications. Researches, reviews and screens ingredient, technology and turnkey finished product technical and scientific data, identifies the claimable benefits, compares and verifies claims vs. support documents and provides recommendations to Product Marketing and Management. Organizes and maintains documentation for research and clinical support for key ingredients for reference
  • Ensures that formula benchmarks/marketing needs are clearly understood for formula development. Ensures that effective dosage for claims substantiation is used in formula. Oversees and maintains the completed formula specification including all technical data (ingredient list, %, INCI, SDS, C of A, ingredient spec sheets) and resolves any discrepancies.
  • Reviews professional journals and scientific papers to keep abreast of changes/issues in processing methods, product formulation, delivery technologies and Legal and Regulatory affairs which could impactthe company products or processes. Notifies Management/Product Marketing of key issues and proactively develops and proposes recommendations to address key issues.
  • Attends all new product first batch runs to oversee process including trial batches and process testing. Maintains production samples (approved/sign off record) library.
  • Submits samples for stability testing for all new products.  Participates in review of stability testing results for final approval.  Ensures quality execution of experiments, including experimental design, data summary and interpretation, report and manuscript preparation and review and adherence to applicable regulations.
  • Performs in-house testing on all new products. Translates all product evaluation test results and insights to be incorporated into product concepts and prototypes.
  • Reviews and provides feedback on product sales and marketing support materials (relative to science and technical data.)
  • Perform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required.

Product Development Support

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE: To assist in the development of products as requested by customers new and existing, prioritising and scheduling the development in accordance with pre-determined criteria and ensuring samples are sent out to customers.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Coordinate and deliver all sample requests within a timely manner, documenting what samples are being produced for which customers and the time taken to process the request
  • Maintain sample library to an appropriate level

Laboratory Technician

Brisbane/Gold Coast based

This entry level role is ideally suited to a recent graduate who is based on Brisbane/Gold Coast and has a genuine interest in liquid cosmetic products. Practical laboratory experience is important as well as a strong knowledge of general cosmetic product types including an ability to describe sensory aspects of their composition (eg. viscosity, odour, colour, appearance, texture, skin feel, etc.). The successful applicant must have a positive attitude and high attention to detail, initiative, intelligence and an analytical mind. Previous experience of cosmetic products in a sales or technical role will be highly regarded.

The Laboratory Technician will provide support for a diverse range of new and existing personal care and pharmaceutical products.  There will be close interaction with experienced staff in R&D, production, sales, quality and purchasing departments.  You will be working independently and must have the ability to take guidance from managers and to follow current methods and procedures. R&D Trainee

  • Conduct assessments and review of new and alternate raw materials.
  • Assist to maintain a Raw Material Database
